§ Mr. Reidasked the Secretary of State for Energy what estimates he has of the recoverable reserves of coal in Clackmannanshire and at Airth, Stirlingshire, giving qualities and quantities of coal in each case.
§ Mr. EadieThe National Coal Board's latest estimate of recoverable reserves in Clackmannanshire is that some 39 million tons of general purpose coal are accessible to the Longannet complex.
Boreholes have shown the existence at Airth of approximately 70 million tons of coal, some of which may be suitable for coking purposes. But there is no access to this coal and it is not classified as recoverable.
