HC Deb 31 January 1974 vol 868 cc156-7W
Mr. Stallard

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many people, male and female, are at present on remand in custody, in Northern Ireland prisons; how many have been so held for three months or more; and if he will publish details.

Mr. Peter Mills

On 23rd January 1974 there were 419 male and 26 female untried prisoners in custody. Of these prisoners, 221 males and 13 females had been in custody for three months or longer. Comprehensive details are not readily available, and could not be obtained without disproportionate cost and effort.
