Mr. Eadie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland at what point his administration becomes involved in relation to the South of Scotland's Electricity Board's application to build nuclear power stations.

Formally, when the board applies under Section 2 of the Electric Lighting Act 1909 for consent to construct or extend any generating station; but officials of my Departments take part in the informal discussions which precede such applications.

Mr. Eadie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland where in Scotland officers and staff will be located under his responsibility as a result of the creation of the new Department of Energy ; and what is the number of staff involved.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

The responsibilities of the Scottish Office are unchanged, and no Scottish Office staff are affected as a result of the creation of the Department of Energy.
