HC Deb 04 February 1974 vol 868 c210W
Mr. Marsden

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications how many persons are in receipt of old persons' home television licences at concessionary rates; and what is the total loss of revenue to the Exchequer to the latest available date.

Sir J. Eden

At 30th November last there were 192,728 people of pensionable age benefiting from the special television licence for old people's homes. Not enough is known about them to be able to calculate how many ordinary licences they would have needed if the special licence had not been available, but I estimate the additional revenue which would have accrued during the current year had these licensees paid the full licence fees at about £1 million.
