HL Deb 04 February 1974 vol 349 cc702-3WA
LORD O'HAGAN

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many allotments are now in use in the United Kingdom and whether it is the policy of Her Majesty's Government to encourage the use of allotments.

BARONESS YOUNG

The estimated number of allotments in the United Kingdom at the latest date for which figures are available (September, 1972) is approximately 504,000. The policy of Her Majesty's Government is, while showing encouragement to allotment interests, to rely on local authorities to fulfil the statutory responsibilities which rest upon them in this matter.
