HC Deb 01 February 1974 vol 868 c198W
Mr. Roderick

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many inquiries about available factory space or industrial sites in Wales in each year since 1970 have been made to his Department; how many firms have come to Wales as a result of the inquiries; and how many jobs were created as a consequence.

Mr. Anthony Grant

The Department is aware of 148 new manufacturing firms which have started operations in Wales during 1970–73. By the end of 1973 they had already provided over 13,000 jobs.

During the same period the number of inquiries about locations in Wales were as follows:

Year Inquiries
1970 316
1971 257
1972 427
1973 855
