Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs when, and in what circumstances, Rockall was formally annexed to the British Crown; and what is its present status.

Mr. Ennals

The island of Rockall was annexed to the Crown by proclamation in 1955. It was incorporated into Scotland by the Island of Rockall Act 1972 and forms part of the district of Harris in the county of Inverness.
