§ Mr. Rostasked the Secretary of State for Energy what directives he has given to the Central Electricity Generating Board to recycle waste heat from existing power stations; whether he has authorised the construction of any new power stations since last February which do not provide for the utilisation of waste heat; and what proposals he has to ensure that all future power stations are designed and constructed so that waste heat can be utilised.
§ Mr. EadieSince February, capital investment has been authorised for the construction of one major new power station—Littlebrook D in Kent. No provision is being made to supply heat from this station, because it has not been possible to identify any viable local demand. No directives have been given on the use of heat from power stations. The supply industry is already actively seeking opportunities for providing heat from power stations, and my Department is carrying out studies of combined heat and power schemes.
