HC Deb 17 December 1974 vol 883 c385W
56. Mr. John H. Osborn

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what representations she has received about bringing into operation the mobile coronary care unit donated by voluntary subscriptions, which has been lying idle for 12 months due to disagreement between ambulance drivers and the regional hospital board in Sheffield; and if she will take steps designed to ensure that this unit is brought into use forthwith.

Dr. Owen

I understand that the trade unions are not willing to operate the unit unless the special pay offer already made is improved. This is now a matter for the Whitley Council concerned, which has recently revised the grading structure and pay of all ambulance men on terms which appear to include their participation in such work. The agreement will be promulgated very shortly.
