§ Mr. Englishasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what decisions were reached about road haulage at the latest meeting of the EEC Council of Transport Ministers.
§ Mr. MulleyThree main decisions were taken:
- (a) The experimental bracket tariff system is to be continued until the end of 1975 in such a way as in effect to exclude traffic with the three new member States from its future operation.
- (b) The Community quota system is to be continued during 1975, and the number of permits available to each member State is to be increased by 20 per cent. This will raise the United Kingdom share from the present 227 permits to 272, as compared with the 129 permits available at the beginning of 1974.
- (c) Road/rail "piggy-back" transport is to be freed from quotas and permits with effect from 1st October 1975. This should help British road bauliers operating on the Continent.
