It is estimated that the total net capital gains realised in 1973–74 by persons chargeable to capital gains tax is of the order of £750 million, and the corresponding figure for net gains realised by companies in accounting periods ending in 1973–74 and chargeable to corporation tax is of the order of £400 million.
