HC Deb 11 December 1974 vol 883 cc192-3W
Mr. Loveridge

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she is now in a position to give an assurance that the Registrar-General's Department and Public Search Room will not be removed out of London.

Mr. Alec Jones

I cannot yet give the assurance sought.

The Government have decided to transfer 500 posts of the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys from London, and the Director and Registrar-General is considering which sections of his office are to be dispersed. After consulting all interested bodies the Director and Registrar-General hopes to announce his decision early in 1975.
