HC Deb 09 December 1974 vol 883 c6W
38. Mr. Hardy

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will take action designed to ensure that severe increases in the price of steel scrap do not take place in 1975; and if he will guarantee an adequate supply of scrap to the British steel industry.

Mr. Meacher

The prices paid for ferrous scrap and the procurement of adequate supplies are commercial matters for which the steel industry is primarily responsible. The Government will of course continue to encourage the maximum recycling of ferrous waste and will keep the export-import situation under review.
