HC Deb 02 December 1974 vol 882 c382W
Mr. Nicholas Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will publish the latest figures showing the numbers of people living in owner-occupied houses, in local authority and new town houses, in privately rented accommodation and in tied accommodation, and also the estimated number of homeless people.

Mr. Kaufman

In England and Wales, it is estimated that there are now 25 million people living in owner-occupied housing, 15 million in local authority or new town housing, 5½ million in privately rented accommodation, and about 2\ million in tied accommodation. Nearly 29,000 people were living in temporary accommodation provided for the homeless at the end of March 1974.
