HC Deb 08 April 1974 vol 872 c2W
Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for Trade, in view of the further evidence made available to the United States Senate on the subject of the cargo doors of DC10 aircraft of the type that recently crashed near Paris and of the fact that at least one British airline is still flying such aircraft, if he will make a further statement about the safety of DC10 aircraft using airports in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Shore

I am advised by the Civil Aviation Authority, which is responsible for British airworthiness standards, that it is satisfied with the safety measures taken by Laker Airways, the only British operator of DC10 aircraft. The safety standards of foreign airlines are the responsibility of the State of registry but I am assured by the airlines concerned that they are applying all the necessary safety precautions.
