HC Deb 02 April 1974 vol 871 cc346-7W
Lord Balniel

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many houses have been sold by the New Towns Development Corporation and the Commission for the New Towns in the designated new towns of Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield; and what proportion this forms of the new town housing provision in each town.

Mr. John Silkin

The numbers of houses built for renting and sold by the Commission for the New Towns to sitting tenants between October 1970 and 31st December 1973 were 668 at Hatfield and 762 at Welwyn Garden City, 20 per cent. and 13 per cent. respectively of the total number of dwellings built for renting by the commission in the two towns. Details of other sales of houses by the two development corporations and the commission are not readily available, but the numbers are small.
