asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what will he the total reduction in grant to Kent as a whole as a result of the decision to replace the variable domestic element by a flat rate of 13p; and what the loss of grant will be to the Canterbury district in particular.

The estimated reduction in grant to Kent as a whole as a result of the decision to replace the variable domestic element by a flat rate of 13p is some £352,000. The corresponding reduction for the Canterbury district is £338,000.
