§ Mr. Boyden
asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what progress has been made in the development of a national information service on the maintenance costs of buildings.
§ Mr. Freeson
An independent non-profit making company, sponsored jointly by my Department and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and supported by the Royal Institute of British Architects and the Institution of Heating and Ventilation Engineers, took over operation of the Building Maintenance Cost Information Service from 1st April 1974. The company aims to improve and expand the present service to subscribers of collection, analysis and publication of data on the occupancy costs and performance of buildings in use. I commend the service to the construction industry and property owners.
