§ Mr. Jesselasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give an estimate of the approximate cost of ceasing to tax maintenance payments to divorced and separated wives as if they were investment income, if the investment income surcharge were applied, (a) at £1,000 as proposed in the Budget Statement or (b) at £2,000 as in 1973–74.
