§ 43. Mr. Biffenasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what proposals he has to prevent price increases for sugar in view of the fact that the present arrangements for the sugar refining subsidy terminate in June.
§ Mr. MoyleI have been asked to reply.
As my right hon. Friend made clear in his statement to the House on Monday 25th March, improved arrangements have been agreed for the refining margin for our cane sugar refiners. From 1st July these new arrangements will enable refiners to secure an adequate refining margin without recourse to the present Exchequer subsidy, and without increasing their selling prices in relation to the United Kingdom intervention price.
