HC Deb 01 April 1974 vol 871 cc297-8W
Mr. Ancram

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether, in view of the prevailing economic situation, she will consider paying the full pension increase to those on proportionately reduced rate pensions rather than just a proportion thereof.

Mr. O'Malley

No. To increase all retirement pensions by the same amount would mean that modified rate pensions would be increased disproportionately to those at the full rate; and this would be unfair to those who have maintained a full contribution record, often with considerable difficulty.
