HC Deb 01 April 1974 vol 871 cc263-4W
Mrs. Winifred Ewing

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many representations he has had requesting him to increase the sum which retirement pensioners can earn free of tax or reduction in their pension; and what replies he has given.

Dr. Gilbert

I have received a number of such suggestions. As the hon. Lady will be aware, it is proposed in the Budget to increase the income limits for age exemption to take account of increases in the national insurance retirement pension. As regards the earnings rule, I would refer the hon. Lady to the statement my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Social Services made on 27th March.—[Vol. 871, c. 452.]
