HC Deb 25 October 1973 vol 861 c626W
Mrs. Doris Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will take action to monitor the effects upon schoolchildren arising from the decreased consumption of high protein foods consequent on recent price increases.

Mr. Alison

A monitoring of the effect of any rise in prices on the diet of the nation is part of a normal procedure by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food through the National Food Survey, and nutritional implications are closely studied by my Department. The latest figures show that the dietary intake of protein for all households, including those with four or more children, is substantially greater than that recommended for the United Kingdom.
