HC Deb 25 October 1973 vol 861 c593W
Mr. Pink

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what action his Department is taking to combat the rapid growth of "Japanese Seaweed" to avoid interference with fishing.

Mrs. Fenner

Studies carried out by my Department in the Solent indicate thatSargassum muticum appears to be restricted to inter-tidal areas, and it seems unlikely that it will interfere with fishing. This Department will, however, take part in the discussions of the local working group which has been established to determine how best to deal with this problem.
