HC Deb 25 October 1973 vol 861 cc592-3W
Mr. Leadbitter

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will publish the trends of feeding stuff prices since the 1973 Price Review.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

Since the 1973 Annual Review White Paper was published in March, the following approximate increases have occurred in average prices of the principal manufactured compound feeding stuffs in Great Britain:

Type of Feed Percentage
Cattle and Calf 27
Pig 39
Poultry 39
Sheep 26

Mr. Leadbitter

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what estimate he has made of the increase in cost of animal feeding stuffs during the next six months; and what proposals he has to assist the farmer in meeting those costs and concerning action on prices of poultry, eggs, milk and meat.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

It is not the practice of the Government to make forecasts of production costs. On the second part of the Question, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which my right hon. Friend gave to the hon. Member for Manchester, Wythenshawe (Mr. Alfred Morris) on 16th October 1973.—[Vol. 861, c. 94–6.]
