HC Deb 25 October 1973 vol 861 cc652-3W
Mr. Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) when he proposes to make his own appointments to the membership of the Peak Park Planning Board; and whether such appointments will be strictly in accordance with his intentions as published in his Department's Circular 63/73 to take account of the wider national purposes for which the National Parks have been designated and not in any way changed so as to provide for further representation of local authorities additional to that majority representation of local authorities already provided by the county council's appointments;

(2) when he intends to make an order reconstituting the Peak Park Planning Board.

Mr. Rippon

After full consultation with the six county councils concerned I have decided that the board should have 33 members. Of these, 11 would be appointed by me in accordance with the policy stated in departmental circular 63/73 and 22 by the county councils. I am assured that the county council appointments will include four members representing the district council interest.

The necessary order will be made shortly and my appointments to the board as soon as possible thereafter.
