HC Deb 25 October 1973 vol 861 c591W
Mrs. Doris Fisher

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will investigate the reasons why the percentage increase in bacon prices since 1970 has been substantially higher on the cheaper cut streaky variety.

Mrs. Fenner

The actual increase in the price of streaky bacon since June 1970 has been smaller than for any other cut, except collar, for which regular statistical series are available. The increase in percentage terms appears higher for streaky bacon because of its low price relative to other cuts at the beginning of the period. I see no reason to initiate any further inquiry.
