asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many employees he has in connection with ancient monuments in Orkney.

Mr. Rippon

The following staff are employed in Orkney on work in connection with ancient monuments in Orkney:

  • 5 Custodians.
  • 5 Relief custodians (Part-time).
  • 9 Keykeepers.
  • 18 Industrial employees.

It is not possible to allocate the time of professional and technical officers of the Department's staff on the Scottish mainland which is devoted to monuments in Orkney.
