HC Deb 12 November 1973 vol 864 cc22-3W
Mr. Lomas

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what were the numbers of starts and completions in council house building in each year from 1964 to the latest available date.

Mr. Eyre

The figures for the years 1964 to 1967 appear on pages 11 and 15 of Housing Statistics, Great Britain, No. 8, and for 1968 to 1972 on page 23 of Housing and Construction Statistics No. 5; copies are in the Library. During the first nine months of this year, 77,200 dwellings for local authorities and new towns in Great Britain were reported started and 71,400 completed.

Mr. Lomas

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many local authorities over 100,000 in size built more council houses than Huddersfield in 1972 and 1973.

Mr. Eyre

The population of each local authority in England and Wales and the number of dwellings completed for the authority in 1972 appear in Table 5 of Local Housing Statistics No. 25; this publication is available in the Library. Corresponding figures for 1973 will appear in due course in Local Housing Statistics No. 29.
