HC Deb 12 November 1973 vol 864 c23W
Mr. Lomas

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT the number of council houses built by the Huddersfield local authority in each year from 1964 to the latest available date;

(2) how many privately built houses have been allowed in the county borough of Huddersfield compared with the number of council houses during the past 10 years.

Mr. Eyre

The numbers of council and private dwellings completed in Huddersfield in the years 1966 to 1972 appear on page 9 of Local Housing Statistics Nos. 1, 5, 9, 13, 17, 21 and 25, respectively; copies of these publications are available in the Library. For the other periods, the numbers were:

Local authority Private
1964 151 395
1965 147 394
January-September 1973 44 188

Mr. Lomas

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many houses in the county borough of Huddersfield have no inside toilet or bathroom; and how this compares with the national average.

Mr. Eyre

The 1971 Census found that 13.3 per cent. of households in Huddersfield county borough had no inside water closet and 14.6 per cent. had no fixed bath or shower. The corresponding figures for Great Britain were 9.1 per cent. and 11.5 per cent. respectively.
