§ Rev. Ian Paisleyasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science (1) when the model scheme of teachers' sick pay regulations was introduced in England and Wales; and on how many occasions it has been revised and recirculated to local education authorities;
(2) what consultations were held with the Association of Education Committees in England and Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands in connection with the creation and implementation of the model scheme of teachers' sick pay regulations.
§ Mr. St. John-StevasTeachers' conditions of service are not the responsibility of my right hon. Friend. I understand, however, that the model scheme of teachers' sick pay regulations was first issued in 1946 and subsequently revised in 1949, 1958, 1960, 1968, 1972 and 1973. The scheme is in the form of a recommendation to local education authorities in England and Wales following joint discussions by the representatives of the teachers' associations and of associations representing local authorities and education committees of local education authorities.
The Association of Education Committees takes part in these discussions.
§ Rev. Ian Paisleyasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is her estimate of the total number of teachers in England and Wales who have had any length of service on half pay since 4th January 1973 because of illness, both as a number and as a percentage of the total number of teachers employed.
§ Mr. St. John-StevasThe information is not available and could not be produced without undue expenditure of manpower and effort.
