HC Deb 18 May 1973 vol 856 c408W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he will cause an investigation to be made into public companies to ascertain to what extent company directors have been evading the Government's wage control policy by increasing the salaries of their directors and paying them in kind with houses and other perquisites and making tax free payments in other countries: and whether he will publish this report.

Sir G. Howe

The powers of investigation under the Companies Acts are not appropriate to the matters in the hon. Member's Question. The questions of payments in kind and other perquisites to directors and tax-free payments in other countries are matters for the Inland Revenue, which I understand keeps them constantly under review.
