HC Deb 18 May 1973 vol 856 cc407-8W
Mr. Moate

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry in view of the availability of pickled birds in British restaurants, what further steps are being taken to detect and prevent their importation.

Sir G. Howe

The Department hopes shortly to complete the investigations into imports of pickled birds from Cyprus to which I referred in the answer which I gave on 19th March to the Question by the hon. Member for Roxburgh, Selkirk and Peebles (Mr. David Steel). As I said then, there were no imports of such birds from Cyprus in 1972; nor were there any imports of them from Cyprus in the early months of 1973. I have no information about imports of pickled birds from other Mediterranean countries.—[Vol. 853, c.11.]
