§ Mr. CarlisleThere is no agreed definition of "mugging". The most relevant figures are those for offences of robbery or assault with intent to rob. The number of such offences known to the City of London and Metropolitan Police forces in 1972 was 3,228. The corresponding figure for 1971 was 2,785.
