§ Mr. St. John-StevasProvisional figures of students entering higher education establishments in 1972 indicate that 68,300 students—45,100 men and 23,200 women—entered universities in the United Kingdom and 37,300 students—10,500 men and 26,800 women—entered non-graduate courses of initial teacher training at colleges of education in England and Wales. The latter figures exclude students entering teacher training after having taken other courses of higher education. Figures for students on advanced courses in higher education establishments are still being collected by my Department.
