§ Mr. Kelleyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if his Department has any arrangement with other Government Departments, and outside interests, with a view to establishing the best method of the use and disposal of industrial waste materials, particularly of that which has resulted from past mining and quarrying activities.

In addition to studies by my Department's own research establishments into the use of various waste materials, there are continuing contacts with the Department of Trade and Industry, local planning authorities and various industries. My right hon. and learned Friend encourages the use of waste material as bulk fill in road making and an Advisory Committee on Aggregates is considering the possibilities of substituting industrial wastes for traditional aggregates.
