HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 cc525-6W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the number of local education authorities which do not employ educational psy- chologists; and whether, following local government reorganisation, she will now seek to make the employment of local authority school psychologists mandatory.

Mrs. Thatcher

In 1972, eight of the existing authorities in England had no educational psychologist. Local education authorities must judge their need for themselves, but the steady growth in the number of educational psychologists should make recruitment easier.
