HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 c405W
Mr. Judd

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will seek to bring the duty-free concessions for Royal Navy personnel returning from abroad into line with those available to civilians; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Higgins

Royal Naval personnel posted back to this country after service abroad receive the same duty and tax-free allowances as would be available to civilians in similar circumstances. The allowances for Royal Naval personnel serving afloat who come ashore for leave in this country after a cruise outside home waters would in most cases also be the same as the comparable allowances for merchant seamen.
