HC Deb 24 July 1973 vol 860 cc422-3W
38. Mr. Edward Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what matters he has submitted for consideration at the next meeting of the Common Market Council of Ministers.

Mr. John Davies

The next meeting is not until September, and it is too soon to forecast what will be on the agenda. The estimate of subject headings likely to come up for discussion in the Council in September will be lodged in the Vote Office in advance of the meeting.

Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if memoranda presented by the Commission of the European Communities to its Council of Ministers are available to him prior to the meeting of the relevant council; and what arrangements he intends to make to make them available in the United Kingdom.

Mr. John Davies

Such memoranda are circulated by the Council Secretariat to all member States before meetings of the Council at which they are to be considered.

Copies of the more important Commission documents which are in the public domain are made available to the House as quickly as possible. They are also usually released by the Commission to the Press and other news media and thus receive wide publicity in the United Kingdom.
