HC Deb 19 July 1973 vol 860 cc197-8W
Mr. David Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what percentage of all complaints made to the weights and measures officers under the Trade Descriptions Act 1968 was related to motor vehicles in 1971 and 1972.

Sir G. Howe

I have no record of the numbers of complaints made to local weights and measures authorities. But records of successful prosecutions under the Act in regard to motor vehicles and accessories show that these represented 61 per cent. of the total in 1971 and 59 per cent. in 1972 in relation to offences under Section 1 (false trade description), and 5 per cent. and 3 per cent. respectively in relation to offences under Section 11 (misleading indications of price).
