§ Mrs. René e Shortasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will now give a revised list showing how many liaison offices in universities and polytechnics will close and how many liaison officers will become redundant as a result of his decision to withdraw support.
§ Mr. Anthony GrantI am glad of this opportunity to correct mistakes which occurred in my reply of 8th May.—[Vol. 856, c. 78–9]—and to report second thoughts by some colleges and local authorities, which I welcome. As on the previous occasion, I have included all colleges accommodating industrial liaison centres to give the full picture.
Our latest information, on the afternoon of 17th July, is that 23 centres will close on 31st July and that nine industrial liaison officers have not been offered acceptable alternative employment by the college or local authority. The colleges concerned are shown in the list below. A further 29 centres will continue and seven have still to decide.
