HC Deb 09 July 1973 vol 859 c272W
Mr. Thomas Cox

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the known number of bogus education colleges offering degrees or diplomas operating in the United Kingdom; and how many prosecutions have been taken against these organisations during the last five years.

Mrs. Thatcher

There is no certain way of knowing how many of these establishments are operating in the United Kingdom, but it has been suggested that there may be about 30. I understand that the records kept by the Home Office do not reveal how many prosecutions have been taken against these organisations.
