HC Deb 02 July 1973 vol 859 c41W
Mr. Roy Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he is satisfied with the progress being made in the capital reconstruction scheme for the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peyton

Having failed to secure the necessary approval at three of the four stockholders' meetings, the scheme has now to be submitted to the court in accordance with the procedure laid down by Parliament in the Mersey Docks and Harbour Act, 1971.

Mr. Roy Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will grant further assistance to the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company following the decisions taken at the meeting of the stockholders on 22nd June 1973.

Mr. Peyton

As I have already told the company, I am prepared to provide grant and loans for the completion of the Sea-forth Docks development and loans for other major capital developments in the future, but not to help make good losses incurred by stockholders.
