asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what progress he has made in the establishment of the machinery for the implementation of the fair trading legislation.

Plans have been made to establish the office of the Director General of Fair Trading and to enable him to take up his duties as soon as practicable after the Fair Trading Bill becomes law.
