27. Mr. Dormand

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what action she has taken on the report sponsored jointly by her Department and the Social Science Research Council on Educational Priority.

The Government share the concern shown in the report for disadvantaged children, and this is strongly reflected in their policy on nursery education.

In phase 9 of the urban programme local education authorities were invited to submit, among other things, bids for projects to strengthen the links between home and school. Both the Department and the Social Science Research Council have made grants for research projects which are a continuation of the original project.
