HC Deb 09 April 1973 vol 854 c222W
Mr. Prescott

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he received or sought any advice from any local authority in Kent or elsewhere on the ability of the Kent road system to handle future projections of traffic, apart from where specific road improvement decisions had been delayed pending a decision on the Channel Tunnel proposal.

Mr. Peyton

Yes.

Mr. Prescott

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he received or asked for any advice from the National Ports Council on the inability of the Channel ports and South-East Coast ports to handle future projections of trade between Great Britain and Europe.

Mr. Peyton

The consultants undertaking the transport cost benefit study referred to in paragraph 8.17 of "The Channel Tunnel Project" (Cmnd. 5256) have sought advice from the National Ports Council about the requirements for future investment in cross-Channel port facilities with and without a tunnel.
