Mr. Golding

asked the Secretary ot State for Trade and Industry what re-adaptation grants under the Treaty of Paris will be payable in respect of the provision of jobs for those steelworkers at Shelton declared redundant; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Emery

The Government are currently negotiating with the European Commission an agreement under Article 56 of the Treaty of Paris for financial assistance towards tide-over payments, unemployment benefits, and training and resettlement allowances for redundant steelworkers; details have not yet been finalised.
