HC Deb 09 April 1973 vol 854 c206W
32. Mr. Ronald Bell

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department in what circumstances he is permitting two African employees of East African Airways to accept employment in the United Kingdom without work permits; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lane

These two men are working here temporarily and the Department of Employment is considering applications for their continued employment. A Commonwealth citizen wishing to come to work in the United Kingdom must, in general, be in possession of a work permit. Otherwise, even if admitted, as these men were, without a prohibition on employment, he will have no claim to stay here in employment.
