HC Deb 04 April 1973 vol 854 c96W
28. Sir Clive Bossom

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what research is being carried out for the complete destruction of plastic bottles and containers, in order to reduce problems in relation to refuse disposal and litter in the countryside.

Mr. Eldon Griffiths

The quantities and types of plastic bottles and containers at present found in house refuse can ordinarily be disposed of satisfactorily in a modern incinerator or in a properly controlled tip. Research is being carried out at the University of Aston on the degradation of plastic material, and work on this subject has been or is being done in several other countries.
