§ Mr. Ashleyasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many deaf children are unable to find places in suitable schools.
§ Mr. St. John-StevasIn January 1972 there were 126 deaf children in England awaiting places in special schools, 73 of whom were under 5 years of age. A new school for 90 primary' age children is expected to be in use in the summer of 1975, and a further school for secondary pupils is likely to be programmed in 1974–75.
§ Mr. Ashleyasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will now hold an inquiry into the educational problems of all deaf children.
§ Mrs. ThatcherThe Department is already considering various matters concerning the education of children with hearing impairment. Following this, I shall decide whether to issue guidance to local education authorities and to the voluntary bodies concerned.
